Simple Ways to Apply Ayurvedic Nutrition Elements During The Summer

Many people don’t realize that feeling uncomfortable and sluggish after meals doesn’t have to be a regular occurrence. When it's warm outside, post-meal heaviness can get even worse. Understanding Ayurvedic nutritional practices can make a huge difference in your energy level. Here are some tips to apply Ayurveda to your meals!

What’s your Ayurvedic Type?

Ayurvedic science is based on understanding one's main elements (doshas). It’s important to learn your dominant element when beginning to embrace Ayurvedic elements in life. Consider your physical traits, personality tendencies, and emotional inclinations. It's important to note that most people have a mix of all elements; the goal is to recognize which ones are more pronounced in your nature. Consulting with an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner can guide you toward a personalized approach to diet, lifestyle, and well-being based on your elemental composition.

1. Earth (Prithvi): Represents stability, structure, and grounding

  • Sturdy build, strong digestion, and a practical, nurturing nature
  •  Find themselves drawn to activities that involve organization and structure
  • Well-defined features and thick hair

2. Water (Jala):
Embodies fluidity, adaptability, and emotional depth

  • A well-hydrated complexion, a tendency toward creativity, and a compassionate demeanor
  • May enjoy activities like swimming or meditation that connect them to the fluidity of life

3. Fire (Agni):
Fire symbolizes transformation, energy, and passion

  • Charismatic, ambitious, and enthusiastic
  • Warm body temperature, vibrant eyes, and a sharp intellect
  • Engaging in challenging physical exercises or creative pursuits can help channel their fiery energy

4. Air (Vayu):
Represents movement, communication, and changeability

  • Curious, social, and quick-witted
  • Lean build, dry skin, and a tendency to feel cold
  • Engaging in activities that involve movement and mental stimulation can be beneficial for them

5. Ether (Akasha):
The space that holds all elements and energies

  • Sense of expansiveness, spirituality, and creativity
  • Slender frame, a preference for open spaces, and a strong intuition
  • Practices like meditation and artistic expression can help them connect with their ethereal nature

The Foundation

Through the marriage of Ayurvedic wisdom and modern nutrition, we pave the way for a harmonious and individualized approach to nourishment that fosters not only physical health but also a deeper connection to the food we consume.

Mindful eating, a core Ayurvedic practice, encourages us to savor each bite and engage all our senses.

Considering factors such as the season, time of day, and personal motives when planning meals can further enhance the nutritional benefits.

Eat your Element

Earth (Prithvi)

Incorporate grounding foods like root vegetables, whole grains, and nuts into your diet to support stability and nourishment.

Water (Jala)

Embrace hydrating foods like juicy fruits, leafy greens, and herbal teas to foster emotional balance and adaptability.

Fire (Agni)

Opt for metabolism-boosting foods and spices such as ginger, turmeric, and lean proteins to fuel your energy and passion, as well as cooling foods like cucumber for balance.

Air (Vayu)

Include light and easily digestible foods like fresh salads, steamed vegetables, and herbal infusions to satisfy your curiosity and maintain clarity.

Ether (Akasha)

Explore foods that inspire spaciousness, such as raw fruits, leafy greens, and foods rich in healthy fats, to nourish your sense of expansiveness and creativity.

Implementing Ayurveda During Summer

During warmer months, like these last few weeks of summer, using cooling foods that help to pacify Pitta and maintain equilibrium by preventing overheating such as:

  • Fresh fruits
  • Leafy greens
  • Coconut
  • Cucumber
  • Watermelon
  • Cilantro

.

Including nourishing,
easily digestible foods that promote vitality, harmony, and easy digestion across all Ayurvedic constitutions for this season’s warmth:

  • Mung beans
  • Ghee
  • Herbal teas
  • Salads
  • Fresh juices
  • Yogurt
